Fall Capsule Wardrobe Challenge: Twenty Twenty September Starts Tomorrow

The Twenty Twenty Fall Capsule Wardrobe Remix Starts Tomorrow...

Are you ready? Just a reminder: you need 20 pieces of clothing (accessories don't count) to wear on 20 weekdays during the month of September, starting tomorrow.

Each Wednesday, on our blogs and on the Twenty Twenty Squidoo lens, Claire O'Mara and I will look forward to your outfit posts and will have posts of our own.

Have You Picked Out Your Twenty Yet for Our Early Fall Capsule Wardrobe Challenge?

I made a few last-minute changes, but finally decided on my twenty pieces ...

My Choices for the Fall Capsule Wardrobe Challenge: Twenty Twenty September...

Join us for the Twenty Twenty challenge! It will be a great chance to road-test your capsule wardrobe for early fall. As I gathered together what I hope are good pieces for my capsule, I was definitely paying attention to what honors me as a dressing your truth type 3.

I only own 16 of the 20 are pieces right now. The others (like the warm khaki cardigan in this picture on the left) are from Coldwater Creek and I am hoping to have them within the next week or so. Here are the one I have...

However, one of those 16 pieces is in my "maybe" category (which I decided after creating the collage), so I have added/ordered 5 pieces from Coldwater Creek.

If all of them come in with time to wear them before the challenge ends, I will not wear the off-white, ivory-colored pullover. If there are any that don't make it, I will try the ivory top again.

The Yummy Tops I Am Hoping to Acquire for My Early Fall Capsule Wardrobe...

By the way, if you are a dressing your truth type 3 like me, check out the "Back to Fall" sale Coldwater Creek is having from now until September 5th. It's a BOGO sale for tops!

I am linking up today with Lindsey from The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. And hey, if you're visiting me from there or wherever you happen to be, I'd love for you to say hello and let me know you stopped by.

Comments are like shortbread cookies to me! :)

End-of-Summer Capsule Wardrobe & More "Celebrate Your Beauty" Pics

Travel Capsule Wardrobe: More Pics from the "Celebrate Your Beauty" Conference...

Those are my friends Leslie and Kristen that I know from the Dressing Your Truth forum. They were SO supportive of my excitement as I discovered and got used to the idea that I am a dressing your truth type 3, instead of a dressing your truth type 2, as I had previously thought!

Actually, I guess I am still getting used to the idea,, and still pondering how I hid my type 3 energy from myself and lived in my secondary (type 2) for so long.

That's me just about to head into the dinner and dance on Friday night at the conference. I had worn a tiger lily necklace all day with that outfit, but added the hair flower instead for dinner, and was relieved to be able to take the necklace off. I loved the way it looked, but it felt a little scratchy!

By the way, earlier that day, they had a parade of beauty for each type which was great fun! If you want to see me dancing down the runway with the other type 3s, click here.

Planning for Fall: My Fall Capsule Wardrobe...

The Twenty Twenty September fall capsule wardrobe challenge starts next week, and I have been testing and finalizing my plans for what to wear. I need twenty pieces and twenty outfits and my goal is for them to honor my dressing your truth type 3. They may not do that perfectly, as I am still getting to know what honors that type, but I will do my best. Here are a couple of things I've worn recently that will definitely be part of my early fall capsule wardrobe...

The 3 in 30 Challenge: Reflections on "Celebrate Your Beauty"

(1) I’m a What???...

This goal was about choosing what I would pack for Celebrate Your Beauty, the first annual Dressing Your Truth conference, and deciding on what to wear.

Here are some of the pictures of me taken while there…

And that’s what I wore to the parade of beauty fashion show and the Friday night dance…

Though I had a blast at the conference, and ended up taking with me exactly what I most wanted to wear, an amazing thing happened while there that has eclipsed both of those experiences. I was draped while there in the colors for all four types and I discovered that I am a dressing your truth type 3, not a dressing your truth type 2!!!

Why I Got Draped at the Dressing Your Truth Conference

Though I dove head first into all things type 2, from the very beginning, I was pairing everything I wore with brown to make the colors more palatable to me.

(Do you notice that all those pics have a sort of grey cast to them? That's what happens when you dress like a dressing your truth type 2 but you aren't one. I didn't know that and didn't see it, but I do now.)

I was determined to make it work but at the same time, was constantly drawn to the type 3 colors and outfits I saw.

And after a few months of participation in the discussions on the Dressing Your Truth forum, I began to realize that I was different than the other type 2 women. They were a kinder and gentler group than I and that disparity started to nag at me. I couldn’t relate to some of the things they said.

Why was that, I wondered. Was I a bad type 2? When was I going to feel the type 3 calm I kept hearing about and why hadn’t I felt it yet?

In general, I began to feel like something was wrong in my type 2 experience and I got tired of dressing like one. I was still trying to make it work, but I was losing steam.

Then I discovered color analysis and dove into it, hoping to discover some colors I could wear that I would like better. I did and they were much warmer, much to my delight. But that seemed to conflict with being a type 2.

How did I resolve that conflict? Cheating and rebellion (very type 3 of me as I later found out). I decided to wear the warmer soft autumn colors I had been told I could wear when I was analyzed.

But then it became time to plan for the conference. I couldn’t wear those warm colors there, could I? Hence my difficulty deciding what to pack!

One of my lovely type 2 forum friends, Michelle, when I admitted my conflict, encouraged me to pack what I wanted to (tiger lily), even if it wasn’t “type 2.” And she suggested that if I were so unhappy w/ the type 2 colors and style, I might not be a type 2, something that had not occurred to me.

When I got to the conference with my renegade coral and tiger lily capsule wardrobe, she informed me that she had asked one of the Dressing Your Truth experts (Anne) to drape me and she did indeed do so that first night.

Before that even happened, the type 2 women I met told me that just experiencing my energy confirmed for them that I was not a type 2, but they thought I was probably a dressing your truth type 1, instead.

We were all surprised to discover that I was a dressing your truth type 3!

Go back and look at all those pics, of Michelle and Anne and these women above. They are all type 2s. Now look at my pics and see if you can see what's different.

Yes, they are Caucasian and I am African-Anerican but beyond that, see how sweet and kind they look? It's all over them! But now, look at my pics. I know I am not that sweet :).

So Why Didn’t I Know I Was a Dressing Your Truth Type 3?...

Or, in other words, what the heck’s the matter with me?

Well, the first thing you should know is that I am a secondary type 2, and many of us live in our secondaries, so we recognize those characteristics and descriptions more when we hear them. As children, many of us are rejected for being ourselves. Sounds too simple, maybe, but it’s true!

We then may make an unconscious decision to be whatever will meet with approval and acceptance, and if we do that long enough, we come to believe that that’s who we are. Our first try is often our secondary nature, and if that works, we live there.

I also think that being a secondary type 2 softens your features, which may make it difficult to see the angularity and asymmetry characteristic of type 3s. Being overweight probably did that as well.

Now that I know I am a type 3, the evidence that I am, in terms of character and personality traits, has been flooding my mind for days.

Dressing Your Truth Type 3: Quintessentially Me

Here’s a video I watched for the first time a few nights ago that defines me so well it makes me wish I had seen it much sooner.

This is quintessential, Jeanine in her natural habitat, a day in the life! Had I seen this video when I was just beginning to question my type, would I have recognized it as the defining characteristic that it is? I don’t know.

When I told my son about it and started that last “if” question, he cut me off before I could finish (in typical excited type 1 style) and said, “you would have thought you were a 2/3 even sooner!” The wisdom of children!

One word used to describe type 3s is “sure” and I tell you, I was SURE I was a type 2!

Anyway, I’m not sure it makes much sense to play Monday morning quarterback, but I think my doing so is a natural part of my grief in realizing I have lost a year to trying very hard to be a type 2. The line from the Barry Manilow song about all the wasted time has been playing on the radio in my head for days.

(2) Dressing Your Truth Type 3 Journey Begins: Creating a Type 3 Fall Capsule Wardrobe

So now the journey begins again! And this blog will shift a bit as I begin to dress my truth as a type 3. Creating my fall capsule wardrobe will look very different than it would have if I were still thinking I was a type 2. As always, I will share my experiences with you.

Join us for the Twenty Twenty September fall capsule wardrobe remix challenge!

(3) Preparing for Homeschooling

Well, I am just beginning to get back to that as I have spent most of the week on vacation. I think I will finish most of the planning by the end of this month, but may still have a bit to do as next month begins. So I may add it on to next month’s goal list.

Do you know your goals for next month yet?

How Natural Tendencies Can Go Too Far: When You Tell It Like It Is, Are You Too Blunt?

Do people ever tell you that you are a little too forthright? Or when they say how outspoken you are, you get the feeling it isn't a compliment?

This is an experience that Dressing Your Truth Type Fours can sometimes have. My mother is an energy profile type four and I heard a lot in this video that reminded me of her...

Did it remind you of anyone you know?

"Every Type of person has natural gifts and tendencies that are innately designed to help us create success, harmony and abundance. We all allow these same natural expressions to 'get the best' of us and we use these same expressions in dysfunctional ways. Being more mindful of this quality in human nature will help you understand yourself and others better and isn’t that what creates wonderful relationships?" --Carol Tuttle

Wisdom Learned from the Celebrate Your Beauty Conference

A couple of things really became clear to me during the Dressing Your Truth conference, Celebrate Your Beauty (which was absolutely wonderful, by the way!)...

My Capsule Wardrobe Must Honor My Dressing Your Truth Type
One thing I feel even more passionate about is the importance of honoring my Dressing Your Truth type.

Given what a strong visual learner I am, I would think that I could learn more easily from watching others who are dressing their truth and reading about their experiences than I do. Sometimes that works, but most of the time (since I am also quite kinesthetic), I have to try it myself.

We Often Live Not in Our Dressing Your Truth Primary Type, but in Our Secondary Type...
Sometimes, if something's not working, I get so determined to make it work that I don't give up. And I decide it must be my fault. For instance, I had no idea how much I was living in my secondary type until I went to the conference. More about that on Friday!

Here's another picture of me during the conference. I will post more at the end of this week and next week...

In both pics, I am wearing my absolute favorite outfit!

The 3 in 30 Challenge Goes to Utah!

3in30 I'm In!!

(1) Finalize what I am going to take and wear to the Celebrate Your Beauty conference...

I am there right now and did choose most of my outfits before leaving. But I took a little extra just in case I changed my mind. Can't wait to tell you guys all about it when I get back!

(2) Start planning my early fall capsule wardrobe using the principles in my book...

COMING SOON: Twenty-Twenty September! A fall capsule wardrobe challenge hosted by me and fellow 3 in 30 blogger, Claire at her blog, this Dressing Your Truth blog and my seasonal color analysis blog.

Details: It starts in September but we get weekends off, so it's twenty pieces, twenty weekdays and twenty different outfits. I have chosen my twenty pieces and will only need to add a few things as part of that capsule wardrobe.

(3) Complete the planning for the next Waldorf homeschooling year... Nothing new to report on this goal but I hope to really finish things up when I get back next week.

How Natural Tendencies Can Go Too Far: How Pushy is TOO Pushy?

Dressing Your Truth Type Threes are the ones with their heads on the block this time. But not really! It is normal and natural for energy profile type threes to get things done, to be active and reactive, and maybe to push a little :).

We all have characteristics and personality styles and traits that we were created to express, but that can be dysfunctional if we amplify them or rely on them too much.

In this video, Carol describes how that can happen for those with a type three energy profile...

What do you think of Carol's assertion that even when type threes are being themselves, they can be accused of being a jerk or being rude? I was struck by the fact that it is especially true for women.

And what do you think about what she said about type three moms and dads who can sometimes become so fiery and intense that they scare their kids into compliance? I don't believe parents should use fear to motivate, do you?

But I can see how it would be tempting to fall back on that ability if it came naturally and it got results. Type Threes really like results! So they may need to focus on finding other strategies that work in their parenting.

How about you? Does any of this sound familiar?

Planning for "Celebrate Your Beauty" & My Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Capsule Travel Wardrobe for "Celebrate Your Beauty" Conference...

Final Plans: What I Will Wear...

I thought I would have every outfit planned, but have to confess that I am still waffling on an outfit for the one of the days. I am firm about what I will wear on the plane coming and going, and I have decided which dress to wear to the dance. *cough*

It's not either of the ones I asked you all to vote on, LOL!...

So that's a definite, along with the plane rides, but what am I going to wear during the rest of the conference.

But here are the likely possibilities...

I need three outfits, one for Thursday night, one for all day Friday and one for all day Saturday. What do you think of my choices? Feel free to suggest which three you would choose.

Note: Next week, I will post on Monday about things I've learned this summer about creating a summer capsule wardrobe. I will have just returned from the Celebrate Your Beauty conference but will not have uploaded my pics or even have collected my thoughts about what a fabulous experience it was.

So stay tuned for the following week when I will post a "Celebrate Your Beauty" Real Momma, Real Style!

What I've Been Wearing: Last Week's Summer Capsule Wardrobe...

There were several great things that happened last week: I got a great start on my homeschool planning for next year, I was certified as a color analyst, my son got a guitar from Young Explorers, I tried a daring new color (tiger lily, from J.Jill) and we went to my mom's house to have brunch and hang out with her for the afternoon.

I am linking up today with Nina at Momma Go Round for Real Momma, Real Style...

And, as always, on Wednesday, I will be linking up with the lovely Lindsey from The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday and Claire for Fashion Wednesdays.
